Italy Opposes Use of Italian Weapons by Ukraine Against Russia
The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed on Saturday his opposition to the possibility of Ukraine using Italian weapons to strike Russia. Antonio Tajani warned against any kind of "impulsive" decision, writes Agerpres.
Several NATO countries are in favour of the possible use of weapons supplied to Ukraine by Western countries to carry out attacks on Russian territory, but Italy, a founding member of the Alliance, continues to oppose this stance.
"This is a very delicate moment, and we must not take any wrong steps. We must avoid any impulsive measures or statements," declared Antonio Tajani during a visit to Rapallo (northwest Italy), according to AGI and ANSA agencies.
Tajani also stated that Italy is preparing "in the coming weeks" to send aid to Ukraine again. However, he reiterated, "we will not send even a single Italian soldier to fight in Ukraine, because we are not at war with Russia," according to AGI.
Germany announced on Friday that it had authorised Ukraine to attack targets inside Russia with German weapons. A day earlier, the United States announced that it had partially lifted restrictions to allow Ukraine to defend its Kharkiv region, which borders Russia.
