UN Confirms Participation in Global Peace Summit Despite Russia's Objections
The UN Secretariat confirmed that the United Nations will participate in the Peace Summit taking place in Switzerland this June.
The announcement came from Farhan Haq, the UN Secretary-General's deputy spokesman, during a press conference.
According to Ukrinform, a Ukrainian news agency, Haq was asked to comment on Russia and its allies' attempts to disrupt the summit. He responded by stating that the UN will indeed participate, and that the organisation will provide more details about its representation closer to the event date.
Ukraine's permanent representative to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya, had previously stated that the UN would be represented at the Peace Summit, despite the immense pressure exerted by Russia on the organisation's officials and member states.
The Global Peace Summit will be held in Switzerland on June 15-16. Over 100 countries from around the world are expected to send representatives to the event.
