The war in Ukraine, discussed by the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance

The Foreign Ministers of the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance met in Bucharest to discuss the challenges generated on NATO's eastern flank by Russia's war in Ukraine. The leader of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, conveyed that the main message of the summit, which will last for two days, is that NATO will continue to be with Ukraine as long as it is needed. For the first time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova is participating in the ministerial meeting of the North Atlantic Alliance.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed his support for Ukraine, against which Russia launched a war, and appreciated the necessity and unity of the NATO partnership.

"This is a critical time for our security. We are sending an important message: NATO is here, NATO is alert, NATO is ready to defend every inch of allied territory. In response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, we are increasing the readiness of our troops. We have doubled the number of NATO battle groups from four to eight, including one here in Romania, led by France," said Jens Stoltenberg.

The head of American diplomacy, Antony Blinken, said that the United States will support Romania to strengthen its security in the Black Sea.

"Romania is a key contributor to the security of the Black Sea. We are committed as we move forward to building a modern, interoperable military that will benefit the entire NATO space, including when it comes to the Black Sea. We currently have over 3,000 US forces here in Romania. So, simply put, the Black Sea region is a critical component of NATO's defence, of NATO's strategy," claims Antony Blynken.

"We will discuss these days at the meeting of NATO foreign ministers about the implementation as soon as possible of the decisions of the Madrid summit, which refer to the strengthening of the deterrence and defence port on the Eastern flank and especially in its southern area, at the Black Sea," says the Romanian Foreign Minister, Bogdan Aurescu.

During a meeting with the head of American diplomacy, President Klaus Iohanis emphasised the need for partners' support for the Republic of Moldova, mentioning the substantial impact of the conflict in Ukraine on our country.

TRM.MD recalls that the Republic of Moldova, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina have been invited to participate in a session of the NATO ministerial meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, November 30.
