Moldova Braces for Severe Weather, Heatwave on the Horizon
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a new Yellow Alert for severe weather affecting the southern and central parts of the country.
The alert will come into effect today, June 9th, at 6:30 PM EEST and remain in place until 3:00 AM EEST tonight.
Meteorologists forecast lightning strikes accompanied by brief showers, with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts of 15-25 litres per square metre are expected within short intervals or cumulatively over the warning period. Wind gusts reaching 15-18 metres per second are also anticipated.
It is important to note that this Yellow Alert follows a period of extended rainfall and fluctuating weather conditions. Earlier today, the NWS issued a Yellow Heat Advisory for the entire country, effective starting June 10th. Temperatures are expected to climb up to 33 degrees Celsius.
