Border Police celebrates 32 years of activity
The Border Police of the Republic of Moldova celebrates today, June 10, 32 years since its foundation. On this occasion, the border police officers laid flowers this morning at the monument of ruler Stephen the Great and Saint in the center of Chisinau, and the head of the institution and the country's leadership sent congratulatory messages to all employees in the field, at the opening of the International Forum "Border Security amid new regional realities".
"Border Police Day is an opportunity to remind us of the importance of our work, to reflect on our achievements and to renew our commitment to the security of the border of the Republic of Moldova. In these challenging times, your role becomes even more vital. You are the ones who keep the society safe, ensuring that the law is followed and any threats are prevented. Your courage and dedication are essential to maintaining order and security at the borders. A central objective for our future is the continuous development of operational capabilities, through digitization and investment in people", said the head of the Border Police, Ruslan Galușca.
In her congratulatory message, President Maia Sandu expressed her appreciation for the dedication and sacrifice of border police officers. According to the president, "ensuring the security of the borders comes with sacrifices - of time, of being away from home or family events, but it also comes with dangers to life."
"The volume of work in the coming weeks and months is substantial, but I am confident that you will welcome everyone who comes home in an exemplary manner, with a smile on your face and with courtesy. I am proud, and I think you are too, when we hear or read words of praise about our Border Police - from appreciation for efficiency and fairness to natural things like respectful behavior and good will (…). In the relationship between the Border Police and citizens it is essential to be guided by a simple principle - efficiency and promptness in relation to the correct people, firmness and intransigence towards those who commit violations", said Maia Sandu.
For his part, Prime Minister Dorin Recean thanked all border police officers for their work and dedication, and for the protection of citizens.
"Our priority now is to continue investing in border security and build a European Moldova that actively contributes to security in the region. We need to focus on effective monitoring at borders by developing smart surveillance infrastructure. Another priority is discipline and fairness. Let's have zero tolerance for corruption and criminal smuggling schemes, but also respect every citizen. Let's prove to international partners that they can have full confidence in us and that they can rely on our professionalism and experience", said the prime minister.
About 3,000 employees work within the Border Police. Last year, more than 19 million border crossings of the Republic of Moldova were registered, that is, an average of about 52 thousand per day, as well as almost 5 million means of transport that crossed the country's borders.
