Maia Sandu withdrew the state awards of the former Chief of Staff, Igor Gorgan
The state distinctions of the former Chief of Staff, Igor Gorgan, were withdrawn, according to a decree signed today, June 11, by President Maia Sandu.
Thus, according to the presidential decree, Igor Gorgan remains without the "Military Merit" medal and the "Faith to the Fatherland" order.
Igor Gorgan received the "Military Merit" medal on July 14, 2006, and the "Faith to the Fatherland" order - on September 1, 2015.
We remind that, according to a journalistic investigation, the former Chief of Staff of the National Army, Igor Gorgan, allegedly delivered secret information to the Russian Federation. The Insider revealed the Telegram correspondence between Gorgan and the colonel of the Russian Federation's foreign military intelligence service (GRU), Alexei Makarov. Using his old connections in the Moldovan Ministry of Defense, the two began to have particularly active contacts in April 2022, that is, after the start of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine. The GRU was particularly interested in weapons that Kiev was buying from neighboring countries, including the Republic of Moldova. The Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) confirmed the information presented in the investigation on the eve. The General Prosecutor's Office specified that it will investigate why the SIS and the Ministry of Defense did not intervene in time in the case of the former Chief of Staff of the National Army.
