According to the Presidency, on the occasion of the visit of Italian President Sergio Mattarella, on Monday, June 17, a concert will be organized at the Palace of the Republic that will honor the work of Giacomo Puccini - as 2024 is the year in which we celebrate the work of the well-known composer - and will be attended by the leaders of the two states.
On Tuesday, June 18, President Maia Sandu will welcome her Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, to the Presidency in an official ceremony, and afterwards they will hold a joint press conference.
The presidential institution says that the visit of Sergio Mattarella is the first official visit of a president of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Moldova, Italy being one of the most important partners of our country. Italy hosts the largest community of Moldovans in the diaspora, this contributes to the strengthening of the bond between the states, the development of the economy of both countries and the strengthening of bridges between people and communities, starting from cultural affinities. Cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Italy takes place on multiple levels, informs the Presidency.
For example, in the period 2022-2023, with the support of Italy, several refugee reception centers were set up and 21 vehicles were procured for the border police. In terms of economic cooperation, Italy is the sixth commercial partner of the Republic of Moldova, with over 1200 companies with Italian capital present in our country.
Similarly, Italy's generous contribution offered within the Support Platform for Moldova in 2022 and 2023 compensated part of the energy bills paid by our citizens in the cold season. Moldova and Italy also cooperate on the dimension of international security, especially in peacekeeping missions under the UN aegis.
