Mihai Popșoi, at the Security Forum in Odessa: The future of the Republic of Moldova and the Transnistrian region will be in the EU
The future of the Transnistrian region lies with the Republic of Moldova in the European Union, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs from Chisinau, Mihai Popșoi, at the Black Sea Security Forum in Odesa. The official assured that Chisinau is working on the reintegration strategy of the region, and the citizens, including many Russians here, do not want to be part of the "russkii mir".
"Moldovans everywhere, including from the Transnistrian region, and even some Russians, many Russians, in the Republic of Moldova and in the Transnistrian region, want nothing to do with this vague idea of the Russian world. More and more people realize that the future of the Republic of Moldova and the Transnistrian region of the country is and should be and will be in the European Union. If we look at the data now, the Transnistrian region now exports more than 70% of everything it produces in the European Union. They barely export anything to the Russian Federation or CIS countries," the official said.
The minister claims that Chisinau is engaged in solving the Transnistrian problem peacefully.
"It is just an artificial construction of the Kremlin to limit the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova. The Transnistrian region is an integral part of the Republic of Moldova and we are committed to finding a peaceful solution to the conflict", added Minister Popșoi.
The official also wanted to reiterate that the Republic of Moldova remains committed to helping Ukraine, victim of the Russian invasion.
"The courage of Ukraine and the sacrifice of the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian army keep the Republic of Moldova safe. So we will remain steadfast in our commitment to help Ukraine, despite our modest resources," said the official.
