Eriksen Scores! Denmark Draws Slovenia 1-1
Denmark and Slovenia played to a 1-1 draw in a Group C match held in Stuttgart. Christian Eriksen, the Danish midfielder, opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a powerful shot from 7 metres following a deflection by Jonas Wind.
This goal held particular significance as it came 1,100 days after Eriksen's cardiac arrest at Euro 2021, during the match against Finland. Eriksen nearly added another goal in the 28th minute, but his shot, deflected by Jan Mlakar, went narrowly wide of the post.
The second half saw Denmark create another scoring opportunity in the 65th minute. Rasmus Hojlund's shot from close range (6 metres) was superbly saved by goalkeeper Jan Oblak. Slovenia then came close to taking the lead in the 76th minute when Benjamin Sesko's shot from the edge of the area struck the crossbar. This near miss seemed to foreshadow an equaliser, which Slovenia duly secured in the following move through Erik Janza's goal.
Both teams pressed for a winning goal in the closing stages. Denmark's Jannik Vestergaard and Slovenia's Andraz Sporar each missed opportunities to snatch victory for their respective sides.
In the other Group C match, Serbia will face England at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.
