Moldova Begins EU Accession Talks at Intergovernmental Conference

The first intergovernmental conference, which will initiate the negotiations for accession to the European Union, has begun.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean, who heads the delegation of the Republic of Moldova in Luxembourg, stated that the conference will determine how Chișinău, together with the EU, will build a peaceful and prosperous life in our country.

"I want to address the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Today, in a few minutes, we will officially begin negotiations with the EU at the first intergovernmental conference, where we will determine, together with the EU, how we will build a peaceful and prosperous life in the Republic of Moldova, in our homeland," stated Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

In December 2023, the European Council decided to begin accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The decision was made after both countries submitted applications for accession to the EU and obtained candidate country status two years ago.

Today, June 25, marks the official start of accession negotiations to the European Union, within the framework of the first Intergovernmental Conference EU - Republic of Moldova.
