The official declared that this event represents a historic achievement, and "a strategic choice for peace".
"I congratulate the Republic of Moldova for the official start of accession negotiations. It is a historic achievement and the result of hard work, a strategic choice for peace. We are together for a better, more prosperous and safer future for Moldova and its people," Borell wrote on his X page.
Moreover, the official emphasized that the accession of Ukraine is a supreme guarantee of security, noting that it has progressed on the European path despite the aggression of the Russian Federation.
"Today, Ukraine has moved closer to the EU. I congratulate Ukraine and its people. They have shown remarkable resilience and determination to make progress along the European path while resisting Russia's brutal war of aggression.
