OSCE Parliamentary Assembly // Nicolae Ciucă: It is important to strengthen international support for the Republic of Moldova
In the context of the conflict in Ukraine, it is important to strengthen international support for the Republic of Moldova. The statement was made by the president of the Romanian Senate, Nicolae Ciucă, at the 31st Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, hosted by the Romanian Parliament.
"I want to emphasize once again the importance of strengthening international support for the Republic of Moldova. The second premise concerns the relevance of multilateral formats and dialogue for conflict resolution and adaptation to the current context. Parliaments are the representative bodies of democracies. Our action at the parliamentary level must rise to the imperative of the moment. The third premise is that we are at the intersection of a multitude of crises and threats that potentiate each other, on all three dimensions of the OSCE's action: political-military, economic and environmental, respectively human", said Nicolae Ciucă.
According to him, "the war is fought not only on the battlefield, but also on the ground of disinformation, manipulation and propaganda, which fuels hate speech, extremism and radicalism".
Nicolae Ciucă wrote on the Facebook page that the Romanian authorities decided not to allow the participation of delegations from the Russian Federation and Belarus in this session.
The Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly takes place, between June 29 and July 3, in Bucharest.
The theme of the meeting is "The Role of the OSCE in the Current Security Architecture: A Parliamentary Perspective ". The members of the Assembly will vote for a new leadership of the organization (the president and three deputy-presidents) and new leadership at the level of general commissions.
