Flashmob in the center of Chisinau. Community representatives demand observation of their rights
The representatives of the Roma community in the Republic of Moldova demand that their rights be respected and that they are not discriminated against. The message was delivered during a flashmob held in the center of Chisinau.
The Association of Roma Community Mediators tried to draw people's attention to the negative impact of hate speech. The participants of the event say that they are tired of the stereotypes in society and they want to stop being discriminated against.
At the same time, people said that the most complicated thing for them is to find a job. According to the director of the National Association of Community Mediators, many Roma choose to be day laborers, one of the problems being that they do not have a professional qualification, and the second is discrimination when they go to work, and sufficient measures have not been taken for their inclusion in society.
According to the 2014 Census, 13,900 Roma officially live in our country, while the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance estimated in a report for the Republic of Moldova that their number is over 107,000.
