New British Foreign Secretary Lammy Ready will support Ukraine

The new British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has expressed his intention to continue to support Ukraine as it defends itself against Russian aggression . "Our government will remain committed to the UK's leadership on Ukraine and our unwavering support for Ukraine's security," he wrote on his microblog on the social network X on Saturday, July 6, a few days before the opening of the NATO summit in Washington.
During his visit to Germany on July 6, Lammy also said that he and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock had discussed threats and support for Ukraine. For its part, the German Foreign Ministry said that ahead of the NATO summit, Baerbock and Lammy would discuss how to make aid to Ukraine even more effective with allies.
Resetting Britain's Relations with the EU
Germany was the first country Lammy visited after the new Labour government came to power in Britain. "The new UK government has made its priorities very clear. We want to reset our relationship with Europe," the new British Foreign Secretary said .
Lammy said Britain was looking at how to bring the UK back into the EU. He ruled out the possibility of the UK returning to the EU's internal market and customs union, but said there was much the two sides could do together, "starting with security and a UK-EU security pact".
Such a pact could cover a wide range of issues, including defence, energy and climate, Lammy said. "I want to be clear that the Europeans are our friends and we, in the context of the war in Europe, must continue to spend more on defence and work closely together," he added.
