The “Unirii” Highway might be continued to Chisinau and Odessa
Romania's “Unirii” (Union) Highway could be extended to Chisinau and Odessa. This was revealed by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure in Bucharest, Sorin Grindeanu, following a meeting on Thursday with the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova, Andrei Spînu.
"We discussed with my Moldovan counterpart Andrei Spînu how we can develop our partnership in all the transport sectors! (...) In the road sector, we would like to see the Unirii Motorway (A8) to be taken to Chisinau (Republic of Moldova) and Odessa (Ukraine)", Sorin Grindeanu posted on his Facebook page.
In the field of railway infrastructure, the two officials talked about the extension of the broad gauge railway line to Nicolina Station, Iasi.
The Bucharest official further added that a point of common interest is also the rehabilitation of the Iasi - Ungheni - Chisinau - Odessa railway passage, through financing obtained from the World Bank.
