The National Army will receive a new batch of military equipment from the US
The National Army will receive this week a batch of military equipment from the United States of America (USA). It is about 20 HMMWV technical units, the Ministry of Defense announces. The institution warns that, due to the heatwave, military equipment will be transported at night, when temperatures are lower and road traffic is freer.
According to the cited source, the HMMWV type vehicles will be used by the National Army soldiers in national and international training and exercises.
The donation will be offered in the context of the achievement of the objective of modernizing the capabilities of the National Army and based on the Memorandum "Regarding the collaboration in the military field between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Department of Defense of the United States of America", signed on December 4, 1995. In 2014, the National Army received the first 43 HMMWV transport units from the US Government.
For 32 years, the United States of America financially supported the Republic of Moldova with over 2.5 billion dollars. Our country has received over 744 million dollars since February 2022 - the year in which the Russian Federation militarily invaded the neighboring country, Ukraine, triggering a border war with the Republic of Moldova. The information was previously confirmed for "Teleradio-Moldova" by the media service of the US Embassy in Chisinau.
