Willem Brouwer Joins Moldovan Supreme Court Evaluation Commission
Willem Brouwer has been appointed as the newest member of the External Evaluation Commission responsible for assessing the ethical and financial integrity of judges and judge candidates for the Moldovan Supreme Court of Justice. The decision was ratified by 63 MPs.
Brouwer's candidacy was put forward by development partners following Maria Giuliana Civinini's resignation from the position. According to his CV, Brouwer has extensive experience in external evaluations of judges and prosecutors in Albania. Previously, he served as Vice President of the Eulex Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo and as a judge at the Supreme Court in Pristina, Kosovo.
The Commission comprises six members tasked with evaluating both judges and candidates for the Moldovan Supreme Court of Justice. Three members are nominated by parliamentary factions, and three by development partners. Appointment of Commission members requires a 3/5 majority vote from elected deputies in Parliament.
