Trump accepts the Republican nomination for president
Former American President Donald Trump officially accepted his party's nomination for the position of president, for the third time, at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, writes CNN, quoted by news.ro. "I proudly accept the nomination for President of the United States," he said.
EFE recalls that this was his first public intervention since Trump was the victim of an assassination attempt on Saturday, during a rally in Butler (Pennsylvania), and his speech was the culmination of the Republican National Convention, which confirmed his electoral nomination on Monday and that of the US vice-presidential candidate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.
Trump appeared before his supporters to cheers and applause and announced that he came with a "message of confidence, strength and hope."
"I'm running for president for all of America, not half of it, because there's no winning when you only win half," he declared. EFE writes that the tone of his speech was calmer, gentler and more reserved than usual, as well as the silence of those who listened to his story about the attack on him on Saturday, about which the former president indicated that he would not speak again because it is "too painful" for him.
Reuters notes that Trump struck an unusually conciliatory tone in the first minutes of his speech, but later returned to his usual attacks on Democratic President Joe Biden's administration and claimed without evidence that all of his criminal convictions were politically motivated efforts to prevent him from be re-elected president.
