Moldovan-Irish cooperation and the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU, discussed by Maia Sandu in Dublin

Moldovan-Irish cooperation, the steps that the Republic of Moldova is taking in the process of joining the European Union, but also the involvement of the diaspora were discussed by the Head of State Maia Sandu during a meeting with the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, and Prime Minister Simon Harris.

In Dublin, the president welcomed the decision of the Irish authorities to open an embassy in Chisinau, which will contribute to the development of economic relations.

"Ireland hosts, with great openness and goodwill, one of the largest communities of Moldovans. Ireland, a state with a history of emigration, has a large and powerful diaspora that proudly promotes Irish culture to the world and has played an extraordinary role in the country's economic development. In this sense, but also in that of the economic transformation that a small country can go through with the integration into the EU, Ireland is a worthy example for our country to follow", says Maia Sandu.

During the meeting, the head of state also discussed with Irish officials the mutual recognition of driving licenses between the two states.

We remind you that, between July 17-18, President Maia Sandu paid a working visit to Great Britain, where she participated in the European Political Community Summit. On July 19, the head of state was expected in the Irish capital, where she had several bilateral meetings.

Both in London and in Dublin, the president met with the communities of Moldovans settled in Great Britain and Ireland.
