Russia raises import tariffs on products brought from "unfriendly" countries

The Russian Federation introduces new taxes on all products brought from countries considered "unfriendly", that is, those that support sanctions against Moscow, writes the foreign media. Thus, some taxes will reach 50 percent of the value of the goods.

Russia has raised import tariffs on consumer goods including wine, beer, candy, biscuits and shampoo, according to a government order published later this week.

The source writes that duties on perfume, cosmetics and shampoo in Poland, for example, will amount to 35 percent of the customs value. Taxes on wallpaper in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will increase to 50 percent. Import duties on wine will also be increased to 20 percent.

The new rates will be in effect until December 31. Among the countries "unfriendly" to Russia are the USA, Canada, EU countries, Ukraine, Switzerland or Great Britain.
