How many people live in the Republic of Moldova? The real number, made public for the first time in 30 years

The real number of the population living in the Republic of Moldova is 2.6 million people. The figures were presented by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Moldova and were obtained based on an international calculation methodology.

The calculation of the revised number of the population both at national and local level was carried out by the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova, with the support of UNFPA Moldova and Swiss Cooperation in Moldova.

The UNFPA country program for 2018-2022 is the organization's strategic document signed with the Government of the Republic of Moldova, on the basis of which technical and financial assistance is offered in the country's development process. The current Country Program runs between the years 2023-2027.
