Al Jazeera journalist and cameraman killed in an Israeli attack on Gaza
Al Jazeera Arabic journalist Ismail al-Ghoul and his cameraman Rami al-Rifi have been killed in an Israeli air attack on the Gaza Strip. Their car was hit on Wednesday in the Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City, writes Al Jazeera.
They were in the area to report from near the Gaza house of Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas who was assassinated in the early hours of Wednesday in Iran’s capital, Tehran, in an attack the group has blamed on Israel.
The Israel-Gaza war has had an unprecedented impact on journalists in Gaza since Israel declared war on Hamas following its attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. As of July 31, 2024, CPJ's preliminary investigations have shown that at least 113 journalists and media workers were killed.
