Farmers accuse the Minister of Agriculture of political blackmail and demand his resignation
The Farmers' Force Association seeks the resignation of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vladimir Bolea, after, yesterday, the official explained to them that they will be able to access more European funds once the country joins the EU bloc and urged them to participate in the autumn referendum. The members of the association qualified these statements as a political PR.
In order for farmers to receive subsidies per hectare from the state, the Republic of Moldova must become a member of the European Union, Minister Vladimir Bolea said yesterday in an online discussion with farmers.
"For us to pay subsidies per hectare for pastures, perennial crops, arable land, we should pay 360 million euros, but that is impossible. You must urge all the farmers on October 20th to come out massively to the Referendum in order to bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the European Union, and after that we will talk about subsidies per hectare. I emphasize that this is a political statement made by the Minister of Agriculture, who is also the deputy chair-person of the party".
The President of the Farmers' Force Association, Alexandru Brînza, told Teleradio-Moldova that the European funds for agriculture from the moment when the Republic of Moldova received candidate status in the European Union depend on the professionalism of the negotiation team, and not on the results of the referendum.
"The minister said that farmers will receive subsidies per hectare after they vote correctly on October 20. He asked us to vote for the referendum. We have a group on social networks where there are over 1500 farmers. The farmers did a survey, and 60-70% of them requested the official's resignation".
Contacted by phone to comment on the farmers' request, the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Daniela Turculeț, said for Teleradio-Moldova that the minister assumes these statements.
