At least five people died in an attack on Russia's Kursk region

Fighting continues in the Kursk region, in southwestern Russia, the BBC reports. At least five people were killed and more than 20 were injured, Russian media reported.

In the Kursk region, after an attempt to break through the Russian border by the Ukrainian army, a missile threat was declared, the acting governor of the region Sergei Smirnov said on the night of Wednesday, August 7.

Russian air defence would have shot down three Ukrainian drones, acting governor Alexei Smirnov said. He also wrote on Telegram that the emergency services are on alert. According to him, in the border areas of the region, medical institutions are renewing supplies of blood donors.
