Registration for the Great National Dictation 2024: 1500 participants are expected

Registration for the 2nd edition of the Great National Dictation, which will take place on August 31, when the Romanian Language Day is marked, was launched. This year, 1,500 people are expected, by three times more compared to the previous edition, said the Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun. Thus, 750 desks will be placed for the participants in the Great National Assembly Square.

"This year we will celebrate the Romanian Language Day and we will organise the Great National Dictation, which will take place on August 31, at 9:00 a.m., in the Great National Assembly Square. The event is organized by the Ministry of Education and Research, under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova, and aims to celebrate the Romanian Language and to promote correct speech and writing among all citizens. The participants will be asked to register on the website created by the Ministry of Education in this regard. Those who score the best results in dictation will be awarded in a public event", said Dan Perciun.

Also, the state secretary from the Ministry of Education and Research, Adriana Cazacu, explained how the dictations of the participants in the Great National Dictation will be evaluated.

"The dictations will be checked by an extended committee, made up of linguists, specialists from higher education institutions, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Research and other qualified persons. During the evaluation, we will take into account, the norms and rules stipulated in the Orthographic, Orthoepic and Morphological Dictionary of the Romanian Language, third edition, published under the auspices of the Romanian Academy in 2022. The arrangement of the text on the page will be considered during the evaluation , the legibility of the calligraphy, the accuracy of the writing", said Adriana Cazacu.

We remind you that, last year, the Great National Dictation was organized on August 31, on the occasion of Romanian Language Day. More than 450 people - adults and children - took part in the event. Five participants scored ten, and 55 were rated nine. They were awarded by the Ministry of Education and Research with diplomas of merit, books and vouchers.
