Cec sets funding limits for Moldova’s 2024 elections

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today approved the financial ceiling for the electoral campaigns of candidates in the 20 October 2024 presidential elections and participants in the republican constitutional referendum.

The maximum amount that can be transferred into the "Electoral Fund" account exceeds 65,830,000 lei at the national level.

At the same time, the CEC established that each electoral candidate may request an interest-free loan of 50,000 lei to cover the necessary expenses of their campaign. This loan is available to political parties, electoral blocs, and socio-political organisations participating in the elections.

According to the Electoral Code of the Republic of Moldova, electoral candidates can benefit from such loans to support their campaign efforts. The amount of these loans is determined by the type of candidate: 50,000 lei for parties, electoral blocs, and socio-political organisations, and 10,000 lei for independent candidates. The procedure for granting and repaying these loans is outlined in a regulation approved by the Ministry of Finance.

These measures are intended to ensure the fair and equitable conduct of electoral campaigns, contributing to the transparency and legality of the electoral process in the Republic of Moldova.
