Russian regions hit by drone attacks; oil depots ablaze
The Russian region of Rostov was targeted by drones on the night of Wednesday, August 28th.
Governor Vasili Golubev reported on his Telegram channel that four drones were intercepted and shot down over the region. Preliminary reports indicate that there were no casualties, according to Deutsche Welle (DW).
Meanwhile, Russian Telegram channels have reported that several fuel tanks are ablaze at an oil depot near Kamensk-Shakhtinsky. According to media sources, local residents heard "a sound typical of an unmanned aerial vehicle and an explosion" prior to the outbreak of the fire. Videos showing the oil depot in flames have been posted on social media.
During the night, Alexander Bogomaz, the head of the Bryansk region, reported a drone attack on the village of Kurkovichi, resulting in three injuries. The TASS news agency also reported that in the Voronezh region, air defence forces shot down an aircraft-type drone, which fell "near an explosive object." Consequently, residents of two villages were temporarily evacuated and are now returning to their homes, according to regional governor Alexandr Gusev.
The fire at another oil depot, located in Proletarsk, another city within the Rostov region, has been burning since August 18th following a Ukrainian drone attack. Approximately 20 diesel tanks, each with a capacity of 5,000 cubic metres, have caught fire. Firefighters have been unable to extinguish the blaze for over ten days, and local residents are complaining about the smoke, which is making breathing difficult.
