Supreme court blocks 'Victory' Bloc from autumn elections
The Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) deemed the appeal submitted by the "Victory" Bloc, affiliated with the fugitive Ilan Șor, inadmissible in its case against the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
Consequently, the bloc will not be registered for the upcoming autumn elections and referendum. The decision was delivered on August 29 by the CSJ magistrates in the absence of the involved parties.
The "Victory" Bloc, comprising several political parties from Chișinău affiliated with the convicted oligarch Ilan Șor, was established earlier this year in Moscow. The bloc is led by Ilan Șor.
On August 2, the bloc submitted its documents to the CEC to participate in the autumn elections. However, the electoral authority refused to register the bloc on August 7, citing several discrepancies.
The presidential elections are scheduled for October 20. On the same day, the referendum on the Republic of Moldova's accession to the European Union will also take place.
