Political party criticises court ruling on presidential candidacies
The Chișinău Court of Appeal has denied the appeals filed by Valeriu Pleșca and Ludmila Corsun, which contested the Central Electoral Commission's (CEC) decisions to reject the registration of their initiative groups for presidential candidacies.
These rulings are subject to appeal to the Supreme Court of Justice.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 29, the European Social Democratic Party of Moldova criticised the Court of Appeal’s decision as absurd, baseless, and politically motivated.
It is pertinent to note that on August 24, the CEC refused to register two initiative groups supporting Ludmila Corsun and Valeriu Pleșca.
In the first instance, the CEC identified erroneous data in the submitted documents, raised objections concerning the Political National Council meeting of the PSDE, and noted that Valeriu Pleșca was affiliated with a different party at the time of submission than the one that nominated him.
In the second instance, the CEC determined that Ludmila Corsun did not meet the required proficiency in Romanian.
