The government is to compensate economic agents and other non-household consumers for gas consumption
All non-household consumers will be compensated for the first 500 cubic metres of gas consumed per month in January-March this year, at the rate of 12.27 lei (excluding VAT)/ 1 m3. The gas compensation mechanism for economic operators has been adopted today by the Commission for Exceptional Situations (CSE).
The mechanism developed by the Ministry of Economy also provides for compensation to companies with increased gas consumption in the agri-food, clothing and footwear, glass, carpets, paper and cardboard sectors.
Businesses will be able to apply for the second type of compensation if their monthly gas bill (excluding VAT) is at least 5% of the value of their deliveries of goods and services in that month. Again, the gas compensation is set at 12.27 lei (excluding VAT)/ 1 m3, but not more than 1.5 million lei per non-household consumer per month. Compensation for the first 500 cubic metres will be excluded from the compensated amount.
"The Government fully understands the difficult situation in which many economic operators currently find themselves, due to the increase in energy prices. The compensation we will provide them will help them to overcome the cold period of the year, to keep their jobs and not to resort to price increases," stated Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița.
Businesses can apply for gas compensation through the electronic one-stop reporting system by filling in the application form. Submission of the final application must take place by 12 May 2023.
Compensation to non-household consumers will not exceed 230 million lei, allocated from the Government intervention fund. Today, the SSC also allowed non-household consumers to purchase up to 200 square metres of softwood and softwood firewood for their own use, reads a government statement.
