Eurovision 2025: Basel wins bid over Geneva
The Swiss city of Basel has been chosen to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025.
As the third-largest city in Switzerland, Basel was selected to hold the festival over Geneva, as announced by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) on Friday, August 30. The final is scheduled for May 17.
The competition will be held at St. Jakobshalle, a venue renowned for hosting tennis and other sporting events. The venue has a seating capacity of 12,000. Additionally, the show will be broadcast from the nearby 20,000-seat football stadium. Municipal authorities estimate the cost of the event to be between 30 and 35 million euros.
Eurovision 2025 will be held under the motto "Breaking Boundaries." Located in close proximity to Germany and France, Basel’s authorities have expressed that "Eurovision unites and inspires beyond all borders," underscoring their enthusiasm for hosting the event.
