Moldova receives 100,000 books to celebrate Romanian language
Over 100,000 books will be donated by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova to our country.
The announcement was made by DRRM Secretary Adrian Dupu in a press statement following his visit to the Alley of Classics in Chișinău on the Day of the Romanian Language. According to the official, the books will be distributed to over 300 libraries in the Republic of Moldova.
State Secretary Dupu noted that August 31st holds special significance for citizens east of the Prut, marking the beginning of a break from the Soviet past and the return of the Romanian language to Bessarabia.
"I began the day by paying homage on the Alley of Classics in Chișinău to those who have promoted and passed on the Romanian language through generations. This year, as in previous years, I chose to commemorate the Day of the Romanian Language in Chișinău out of respect for those who, over time, have suffered, were deported, or even died for the Romanian language. August 31, 1989, was a pivotal step in breaking away from the Soviet past and bringing the Romanian language back to Bessarabia. Without that date, we likely would not be discussing the European path of the Republic of Moldova today. It is our duty to cherish, promote, and pass on the cornerstone of our Romanian identity—the Romanian language. DRRM has completed all necessary procedures, and soon, a donation of over 100,000 books will reach more than 300 libraries across the country," stated Adrian Dupu.
It is worth noting that today, the Republic of Moldova celebrates the Day of the Romanian Language, an event widely regarded as the first major victory of the National Liberation Movement, which advocated for independence, freedom, and a return to national values. In Chișinău and across the country, numerous events dedicated to this national holiday will be held throughout the day.
