Hammer attack in a school in Russia: five people were injured

Five people were injured in a school in Chelyabinsk, in the Urals, by a student armed with a hammer, a knife and a gun, Russian media reports. Before being arrested, he managed to hit several colleagues and the teacher, then he tried to commit suicide.

According to preliminary data, the student who attacked his colleagues would have psychological problems and is on record in a psychoneurological dispensary. He did not have friends in class and spent a lot of time on social media, while he allegedly played a suicidal game.

An hour before the attack, he posted on social media in which he wrote that the school was created to enslave children and glorified the game's inventor.

Shortly after the incident, the father of the boy who attacked his classmates and teachers declared that he was the "target of bullying", Telegram channel Baza reported.

Armed attacks on schools, some of which have resulted in numerous casualties, have become increasingly common in Russia. In December 2023, a 14-year-old girl opened fire at a school in Bryansk, a city in southwestern Russia, and killed a classmate before he committed suicide. In September 2022, an armed attack in Izhevsk in central Russia left 18 dead. In 2021, a 21-year-old attacker killed nine people in a school in Kazan, Tatarstan.
