The Republic of Moldova signed nine financing agreements for modernization worth 380 million euros
The Republic of Moldova obtained funding in the form of grants and credits worth over 380 million euros within the Moldova Partnership Platform. The funds will be directed to the modernization of the infrastructure, the transition to a green economy and the sustainable development of the country, informs the Government. Among others, projects of green energy, improved waste management, railway modernization and forest rehabilitation will be financed.
The Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Canada signed a preferential loan agreement in the amount of 120 million Canadian dollars (about 79 million euros). The funding will support vulnerable families, integrate Ukrainian refugees, promote sustainable economic growth and contribute to the green energy transition.
The Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the United States of America have agreed on an amendment worth 12 million US dollars (about 10.7 million euros) to the assistance agreement for strengthening democratic institutions. The new support will contribute to improving the quality of public services, increasing the transparency of state institutions, promoting the independence of the media and encouraging a more active involvement of citizens in the decision-making process.
The Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the United States of America signed a new amendment to the Assistance Agreement regarding the development objective worth over 26 million dollars (about 23 million euros). The new financing will support the development of trade, the improvement of the investment climate, the increase of exports and the strengthening of energy security by diversifying sources of energy supply and strengthening the national energy infrastructure. The Government of the Republic of Moldova and the French Development Agency signed an agreement worth 25 million euros, intended to finance the state budget to boost the transition to green energy. The agreement will support energy reforms, increase energy efficiency, expand the use of renewable energy, protect consumers and protect the environment.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding worth 8 million Swiss francs (equivalent to 8.5 million euros) for the promotion of community projects to support equal opportunities for women and men, but also the active participation of women in the decision-making process.
The Ministry of Energy, the National Center for Sustainable Energy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), the European Union and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway have concluded a multilateral agreement, signing an Intent for Cooperation in the field of energy efficiency in the residential sector from Moldova. The total value of the partners' financial support is over 20 million euros.
The Government of the Republic of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have signed an agreement by which the E5P Fund (Regional Fund of the Partnership for Energy Efficiency and the Environment in Eastern Europe) offers a grant of over 4.3 million euros for the modernization of infrastructure of waste management. The project, already underway, aims to improve the collection, transfer and treatment infrastructure of waste in Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia, Comrat, Vulcănești and Ceadîr-Lunga. With the completion of the project, a waste sorting and composting station will be built in Cahul, and waste transfer stations in the other cities.
A non-reimbursable assistance agreement was signed with the European Investment Bank (EIB), through which our country will be offered a European Union grant of 12 million euros within the project to rehabilitate a 128 km section of railway on the Valcinet - Ungheni - Chisinau - Căinari section.
Through the agreement signed with the European Investment Bank, the Republic of Moldova will benefit from a loan under favorable conditions in the amount of 200 million euros for the planting and rehabilitation of more than 63,000 hectares of degraded lands and forests, in the next 4 years. This support will enable the fulfillment of 44% of the objectives of the National Forest Extension and Rehabilitation Program. The funding will also cover the necessary investments in infrastructure and equipment for sustainable forest management, create new forestry jobs in rural areas and encourage young professionals to apply for this profession.
In all, these agreements bring the country €80 million in grants and €305.1 million in soft loans.
