The Cabinet of Ministers requested, on Wednesday, September 18, the dismissal of the Chief of Staff of the National Army, Eduard Ohladciuc. The final decision is to be taken by the president Maia Sandu.

"It is proposed to submit to the President of the Republic of Moldova the proposal for the dismissal of Mr. Eduard Ohladciuc from the position of Chief of the General Staff of the National Army, Commander of the National Army," said the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Sergiu Plop.

Also, Ghenadie Cojocaru was appointed as Secretary of State of the Ministry of Defense starting with September 23. We mention that Eduard Ohladciuc held the position of Chief of the General Staff from November 2021, he replaced Igor Gorgan.

We remind you that Igor Gorgan is under criminal investigation for treason and he was dismissed. Earlier, the head of the Legislative Igor Grosu declared that Igor Gorgan is in the country.

The prosecutor's office is examining the veracity of the information from the investigation of "The Insider" journalists, who wrote that the former chief of the General Staff, Igor Gorgan, was an informant for Russian military espionage.

The Insider revealed the Telegram correspondence between Gorgan and the colonel of the Russian Federation's foreign military intelligence service (GRU), Alexei Makarov.

The GRU was particularly interested in weapons that Kiev was buying from neighboring countries, including the Republic of Moldova, according to the investigation.

This June, the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases opened a criminal case against the former head of the General Staff, Igor Gorgan, accused of spying for Russia.

Also, the Presidency condemned the "act of treason", and Maia Sandu withdrew Gorgan's state awards and military ranks. For his part, PAS deputy Andrian Cheptonar appealed to the military who would have cooperated with Gorgan and provided him with information, to surrender to the criminal investigation body.
