EU Ambassador in Chisinau: Lands of the Republic of Moldova will not be sold to foreigners

No one will impose on the Republic of Moldova a law that allows the sale of land to foreigners with the accession to the European Union. This was announced by the ambassador of the European Union in Chisinau, Janis Mazeiks, after his previous statements about the circulation of capital in the EU became the subject of misinformation.

Contacted by TVR Moldova, the official explained that he referred to the practices of some EU member states, emphasizing that the decision on land sale belongs exclusively to national governments. Mazeiks said that there is currently no EU-imposed law forcing states to allow such transactions.

"I saw very clearly the messages of Mrs. President and Mr. Prime Minister that the Republic of Moldova will ensure the national interests in the negotiation process. And yes, I can confirm that this is the purpose of the negotiations. Virtually all countries that have become members of the EU in the last 20 years have negotiated various bans and restrictions on land sale to foreigners. In this negotiation process, this is for the Republic of Moldova in the future", claims Janis Mazeiks.

The statement of the Head of the Delegation of the European Union was quickly distorted and became the basis for various disinformation campaigns in the public space. Ambassador Mazeiks believes he has become a victim of propaganda orchestrated by the Kremlin.

"Many of these discussions do not come from Moldova, but from Russia, and I think that this aspect is important to understand, it is not only a discussion, which will take place because it is important to ensure the national interest of the Republic of Moldova but also that it is exploited from Russia", said the EU ambassador to the Republic of Moldova.

We remind you that Prime Minister Dorin Recean reacted to the speculations that appeared in the media about it. The Prime Minister stressed that our country will negotiate any aspect in the national interest.
