Demining operations: Grenades and bombs from the World War II, defused in 9 districts
National Army engineers intervened 15 times in September to neutralize dangerous explosives, detected in several districts of the Republic of Moldova. In all, 38 munitions from the World War II were discovered and destroyed under maximum security conditions in the districts of Ungheni, Ialoveni, Leova, Ștefan Vodă, Căuşeni, Anenii Noi, Ocnita, Străseni and Criuleni, informs the Ministry of Defense.
The most risky mission was carried out in the outskirts of the town of Şerpeni, Anenii Noi district, according to Major Ivan Cornegruța, senior officer in the Genius Service. The Genius team of the "Codru" Genius Battalion, led by sergeant Andrei Matei, managed to neutralize 18 hand grenades, an artillery projectile and a grenade launcher. The objects dated from the Second World War period were destroyed without incident.
Since the beginning of the year, the engineers of the National Army have carried out 116 demining missions, as a result of which 248 explosives and 505 cartridges were removed, thus protecting communities from possible tragedies.
Citizens are urged not to touch or move suspicious objects found on the ground and to immediately inform the relevant authorities.
