All people involved in the electoral corruption scheme will be punished, Dorin Recean

Prime Minister Dorin Recean commented on the situation of the voter corruption network, which the Police and the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office announced during a press conference. The Prime Minister told the journalists that all the people involved in this scheme, which would have been financed by the Kremlin to destabilize the democratic course of the Republic of Moldova, are to be punished according to the national legislation.

"The prosecutors, together with the police and the other services of the Republic of Moldova, provided all the information regarding this network financed by the Kremlin to hijack the democratic government and to undermine the development of the Republic of Moldova. All these citizens are to be punished according to law. As far as I know, those who agreed to be part of this criminal scheme have already been fined over 35 thousand lei", said Dorin Recean.

According to the prime minister, the details of the procedural actions carried out by the authorities are managed by the prosecutors and the police, who continue to monitor and manage the investigation. "They make these statements and they have to say exactly what those procedural activities are," added Recean.

On Thursday, the head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, Veronica Dragălin, and the head of the General Police Inspectorate, Viorel Cernăuțeanu, stated that the network would involve more than 130,000 people and would be coordinated by supporters of Ilan Șor from the Russian Federation, to influence the election results from October 20, 2024 by corrupting voters and illegally financing political parties. The persons involved risk fines, confiscation of the sums received and prison sentences.
