Poll: Who are the favorites in the presidential race?
Maia Sandu continues to be the favourite of the Moldovans in the race for the president of the country. The latest poll presented by the "WatchDog" Community shows that, if presidential elections were held next Sunday, 36.1% of citizens would vote for the current president, supported by the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) for a new mandate. In the preferences of the respondents, Maia Sandu is followed by the former general prosecutor Alexandr Stoianoglo, supported by the Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), the former mayor of Bălți Renato Usatîi, who is running on behalf of Our Party and the ex-bashcan of Gagauzia, Irina Vlah, who is running independently.
The other candidates registered in the presidential race scored, according to the poll data, between 0 and 3%. Almost 22% of the country's population did not decide on a candidate. WatchDog states, in this context, that "the score of the top four candidates could vary slightly over the coming weeks".
For the parliamentary elections, the data mostly cover preferences for the presidential candidates (PAS and PSRM). However, the "Victoria" Bloc, led by the fugitive politician, convicted in the "Bank Fraud" case Ilan Şor, also appears in the top, who would enter the Parliament if the parliamentary elections were held next Sunday.
Thus, the poll shows that, if parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, 29.9% of citizens would vote for PAS. The PSRM would enter the Parliament with 7.2 percent of the votes, and the "Victorie" Bloc - with 6.9%. As many as 29.7% of citizens did not decide on it.
The poll was conducted on a sample of 1,021 people, aged 18+, by phone. The data were collected between September 13 and 22, in Romanian and Russian, with a maximum error of +3.1%.
