Relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol discussed by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration and US Ambassador to Moldova
Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian discussed the regional situation in the context of the current security configuration with US Ambassador to Chisinau Kent D. Logsdon, reports the Reintegration Policy Office. At the meeting, which took place on Friday, 3 February, the officials also addressed the current dynamics of the interaction between Chisinau and Tiraspol, as well as concrete positive steps taken by the constitutional authorities in relation to the residents on both banks of the Dniester.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration emphasised that both the country's reintegration policies and the mechanisms approved in the negotiations must lead to a peaceful and definitive settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, the restoration of control by the constitutional authorities and the completion of structural reforms throughout the country.
With regard to the recent amendments to the Moldovan legislation criminalising separatism, it was emphasised that they would not affect the negotiation process and people of good faith, but were intended to prevent and combat threats to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
