EU accession

The Republic of Moldova signed two agreements with the EU on cooperation in justice field

In Brussels, two agreements were signed with the European Union, which will open new opportunities for the Republic of Moldova within the "Justice" (JUST) and "Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values" (CERV) programs for the period 2021-2027. The agreements were signed during the meeting on the sidelines of the bilateral screening session of the legislation of the Republic of Moldova. This was announced by the Minister of Justice Veronica Mihalov-Moraru during a briefing.

"These agreements will provide new opportunities for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to access programs and grants regarding the development of the judicial system, judicial training in the use of European Union instruments, effective access to justice for victims, greater involvement of citizens in democratic life and strengthening of the protection mechanism of fundamental rights", declared Veronica Mihailov-Moraru.

Thus, by joining the "Justice" Program, intended to strengthen the independent and efficient judicial system, the Republic of Moldova will benefit from support and expertise in the field of judicial cooperation in criminal and civil matters, in the field of judicial training, from the possibility of obtaining effective reparative measures, including by electronic means (e-justice), etc. The program is intended for national authorities that will be able to apply in the justice reform segment, but also for civil society organizations, especially for the access to justice chapter.

The agreement on participation in the "Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values" program aims to support the development of a democratic and rights-based society through access to support mechanisms for civil society organizations. Moldova will participate as an associated country in the components of the program that promote human rights, gender equality and combating violence. Joining this program will allow institutions and non-governmental organizations to access grants from the European Commission in the areas covered by Chapter 23 and 24 of European Union legislation. This agreement will contribute to the involvement of citizens in democratic life and strengthen mechanisms for the protection of fundamental rights.

Both agreements will enter into force when the parties give notice of the completion of the necessary internal procedures for this purpose. Through these partnerships, the Republic of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to implement fundamental reforms in the spirit of European values, which strengthen democracy, the rule of law and the fundamental rights of citizens.
