Election silence in the Republic of Moldova: campaigning is prohibited today and tomorrow
Today, October 19, is the day of silence before the elections for the position of president of the Republic of Moldova and the republican constitutional referendum, which will take place on Sunday, October 20. Under the Electoral Code, today and tomorrow, campaigning is strictly prohibited.
October 18 was the last day on which campaigning actions were allowed for this election.
Under the provisions of the Electoral Code, campaigning is strictly prohibited on election day and the day before it. During this period, candidates cannot appear on television or radio broadcasts. The CEC states that the ban does not apply to information already placed on the Internet and on previously displayed posters.
Also, electoral contestants cannot transfer to/from the "Electoral Fund" account.
Campaigning on election day and the previous day constitutes an administrative offence and is punishable. In the case of individuals, a fine of 40 to 60 conventional units is applied, and in the case of legal entities – a fine of 100 to 150 conventional units.
We remind you that on October 20, presidential elections will take place in the Republic of Moldova. 11 candidates will compete for the seat of president of the Republic of Moldova. Also on Sunday, the Republican constitutional referendum will take place, to which the citizens will answer with "YES" or "NO" to the question: "Do you support the amendment of the Constitution with a view to the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union?".
