Police address authenticity of list linked to electoral corruption

The General Inspectorate of Police announces that it cannot confirm or deny the authenticity of the recently published list, which contains the names of individuals presented as sympathisers, activists, or members of the "Șor" organisation.

According to the Police, the verification of this information is ongoing and will be conducted by comparing the data from the list with the official records held by law enforcement agencies.

"We cannot confirm or deny the veracity of the list, as long as the information presented has not been matched with our official data," stated the Police. Additionally, the institution emphasises the importance of professional collaboration between state structures to effectively document cases of electoral corruption, rejecting speculations about possible inter-institutional tensions on this matter.

The list, containing nearly 3,800 names and personal details, published by NordNews, assigns individuals from various localities in the Republic of Moldova roles as activists or sympathisers of Ilan Șor's network. Furthermore, an anonymous letter, allegedly written by police officers, described the difficulties faced in investigating the alleged buying of votes, accusing certain dysfunctions in collaboration with prosecutors and judges. The Police characterised these statements as "an attempt at institutional division" and reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among state institutions to effectively combat electoral corruption.
