Families with children with severe disabilities will get financial assistance
Children with severe disabilities in our country will benefit from a new support package developed with the help of the development partners of the Republic of Moldova. According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, over 5,500 families will benefit from this program, each of whom will receive a one-off allowance of 3,000 lei. The measure comes as essential support for these families, underlining the authorities' commitment to improving the living conditions of people with disabilities. However, for some families this amount is not enough to cover the costs of caring for children with disabilities.
Natalia Pinceva has a 12-year-old daughter - Alexandra, who suffers from Down syndrome. The woman gave birth at the age of 39, and she learned about this syndrome after the birth. Natalia says that although it was difficult for her, she started to get used to it. She went to a center where she learned more about the syndrome and learned how to properly care for such children. "After the tests we were told that such a child would be born. Even during the utransonography when they checked me, they didn't say they saw any deviations", Natalia said.
Alexandra studies at a regular school and gets along quite well with other children. She likes to sing and attends a theater club with other disabled children. Natalia says that last year she did not receive compensation, but she receives a social pension of three thousand lei. This new support package is small, says Natalia, but it will help them, considering the difficulties she is facing.
"They all have flat feet and need gymnastics, massage. The aid of three thousand lei will be for the rent of the apartment, I don't have my own apartment. I used to buy medicines for 400 lei, but now they are more expensive. If this aid were offered every month, it would be easier for me to pay for the apartment and save for medicine," said Alexandra's mother.
Tatiana Talpa has a daughter who has suffered from infantile cerebral palsy since birth. She noticed the first symptoms when her daughter Natalia was not developing properly.
"Of course it was stress, disorientation because I didn't know how, because I was young, 22 years old and I didn't know how I was going to manage and what was next and how to rehabilitate," Tatiana said.
The woman says that in addition to medication, her daughter needs therapy. The woman is employed as a personal assistant for her daughter and receives two thousand lei. In addition, she has a minimum wage. Even so, she says that she's having a hard time.
"To go to a physical therapy rehabilitation, massage, swimming pool, we need money, much money. We need this sum of money every month in the cold period, not just one time ", said the woman.
In December 2023, families with children with severe disabilities also benefited from a one-time allowance from the Government and the country's development partners.
