Russian attacks cause devastation in Ukrainian cities
The cities of Krivoy Rog, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Kyiv have been the targets of violent Russian attacks, resulting in significant destruction and loss of life over the past 24 hours.
According to local authorities, the bombings have affected residential buildings, healthcare institutions, and protected historical sites, including an architectural monument under UNESCO protection, as reported by UNIAN.
In Krivoy Rog, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, an airstrike by Russian forces caused the near-total destruction of a three-story building. According to Oleksandr Vilkul, the president of the city’s Defense Council, a 39-year-old man died from severe open cranial trauma. "The doctors did everything they could, but unfortunately, the man did not survive. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones," Vilkul stated. Additionally, twelve individuals were injured, three of whom are in critical condition and undergoing surgical procedures.
Beyond the residential building, damage has been reported to several structures in the area, including a gas pipeline and a medical facility. "We have numerous houses damaged, with shattered windows and destroyed balconies. To support the victims, we have opened a relief centre in a nearby school," Vilkul noted. At the same location, emergency teams are distributing construction materials and coordinating relocation efforts for those left homeless.
In Kharkiv, the city centre was struck by intense bombardments, with local authorities reporting that the bombs partially destroyed the Gosprom building, a national architectural monument constructed in the Constructivist style and protected by UNESCO. "The Russian occupiers have struck an iconic symbol of Kharkiv, recognized by every resident of the city," stated Oleg Sinegubov, head of the regional military administration. As a result of the attack, the building suffered significant damage, and several medical and administrative institutions in the area were impacted by explosions and fires.
Kharkiv's mayor, Igor Terehov, announced that additional bombardments also targeted the city’s suburbs. As a result, two houses were completely destroyed, while approximately twenty other residences were affected to varying degrees. "So far, we have found the bodies of four individuals beneath the rubble. Rescue teams continue search and evacuation operations," Mayor Terehov specified.
In the capital city of Kyiv, drone attacks have caused fires in the Solomiansk sector, where a residential building and several vehicles were engulfed in flames. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that two individuals were injured and are receiving medical care. "Debris from a drone fell on a residential building, igniting a fire and also affecting a nearby commercial space. All emergency teams are on-site to mitigate damages and assist the victims," Klitschko informed.
Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv military administration, reported that drone fragments were also found in other areas of the city, such as the Sviatoshyn district, where no casualties were reported.
In the Kherson region, the Russian military launched a drone attack on an ambulance that had responded to an emergency call in the town of Antonovka. According to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, the attack targeted both the residents of Antonivka and the emergency medical team. Following the explosion, a 64-year-old doctor lost his life, while two men, aged 52, and a nurse were severely injured and transported to the hospital, where they are receiving medical care. "We are providing all necessary assistance to save their lives," Prokudin stated. Additionally, a 52-year-old woman suffered blast trauma and is currently being assessed by medical professionals.
