EU boosts electricity exports to Moldova and Ukraine
Transmission System Operators (TSOs) in Continental Europe have agreed to increase commercial capacity with Moldova and Ukraine by about 25% for the 2024-2025 winter period.
This decision was made in response to the destruction of a significant number of power plants in Ukraine and the anticipated electricity shortage this winter.
According to the Ministry of Energy, calculations have shown that electricity export limits can be increased to 2,100 megawatts (MW), 400 MW more than the current limit.
"This significant increase in export capacity is another sign of solidarity and strong support from the European community of TSOs for Moldova and Ukraine, which were severely affected by the brutal war waged by the Russian Federation," the Ministry of Energy stated.
The new export limit will take effect on December 1, 2024. Starting in March 2025, the TSOs will re-evaluate the commercial capacity between the EU, Moldova, and Ukraine monthly and adjust it based on the system's needs and conditions.
