Raids in seven districts on cases of electoral bribery, at 12 members of the "Sor team"
CNA officers and prosecutors are currently conducting searches in several localities in Hâncești, Călărași, Strășeni, Nisporeni, Criuleni, Florești and Orhei districts. The actions take place in the framework of seven criminal cases, started on acts of electoral bribery.
CNA announces that 12 representatives of a political party are suspected of having offered money to voters so that the latter would vote for a candidate registered in the presidential election race.
The law enforcement officers state that they went to the homes of the suspects, as well as to the headquarters of a political formation. All persons are to be escorted to the CNA for questioning. One suspect, out of the 12, was detained for 72 hours. It is about the leader of the Cimișlia territorial organization.
Under the law, people who offer money to influence the results of an election risk from one to 5 years in prison and a fine of over 50 thousand lei, and illegal financing of political parties from prohibited sources is punishable by up to 6 years imprisonment and a fine of over 67 thousand lei.
To ensure the recovery of the damage, legal institutions can apply seizure on the person's assets. Likewise, persons who collaborate with law enforcement bodies are released from criminal/contraventional liability if they self-reported and/or actively contributed to the discovery or countering of the commission of electoral bribery.
