Moldova celebrates first National Radio Day
This is Radio Bucharest!
Today, November 1st, the Republic of Moldova celebrates National Radio Day, following a 2023 government decision. The Day was established at the initiative of the company "Teleradio-Moldova" to correct historical perceptions and recognize radio's contribution to culture and national identity.
Previously, the beginnings of radio in Moldova were linked to 1930, when a Soviet station was established in Tiraspol. In reality, the first radio transmission in the current territory of Moldova took place on November 1st, 1928, through the signal of Radio Bucharest. Later, Radio Basarabia, the precursor to the current Radio Moldova, was created in Chișinău.
Radio Basarabia, the first local radio station, launched in Chișinău in 1939 and functioned as a symbol of local identity, despite suffering interruptions and changes due to the Soviet occupation of 1940. After the Republic of Moldova gained independence, Radio Moldova resumed its role as a public institution, contributing to the consolidation of national values and serving as a beacon of stability and information.
