Moldova’s presidential elections: key regulations outlined
Friday, November 1, marks the final day when electoral campaign activities are permitted during the second round of the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova. On Saturday and on election day, electoral campaigning is strictly prohibited.
According to the provisions of the Electoral Code, during this period, candidates and referendum participants are not allowed to appear on television or radio broadcasts. Additionally, local public administration and advertising broadcasters are required to remove all electoral advertising materials. The Central Electoral Commission has indicated that this prohibition does not apply to information that has already been posted online.
Electoral campaigning on election day and the day prior is considered an administrative offence and is punishable. Individuals may face fines ranging from 40 to 60 conventional units, while legal entities may incur fines from 100 to 150 conventional units.
It should be noted that the second round of presidential elections will take place on November 3. Candidates who received the most votes in the first round will compete for the position of head of state. This includes Maia Sandu, the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party, who garnered 42.49% (656,852 votes), and Alexandr Stoianoglo, the candidate of the Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova, who received 25.95% (401,215 votes).
