Institute of Urgent Medicine upgrades gynaecology department

The gynaecology department at the Institute of Urgent Medicine has undergone significant upgrades, receiving state-of-the-art medical equipment and new furniture.

These improvements will benefit all patients, including survivors of gender-based violence and sexual assault. The total value of the equipment is two million lei (approximately 100,000 euro).

The gynecology department at the Institute of Urgent Medicine treats over 800 women annually, including victims of sexual violence.

"Our department was recently renovated, and we received new equipment and furniture as part of this project," says Ludmila Tihon, head of the gynaecology department. "We now have a fully equipped emergency surgical suite, complete with an operating table, anaesthesia machine, and surgical lamp."

Dozens of patients are already benefiting from these modern facilities.

"I came in as an emergency case on Tuesday, and I must say that everything was very well-organised from the moment I arrived," one patient shared. "I had an ultrasound and an X-ray. The conditions are excellent; the furniture is all new, and we can check our blood pressure and oxygen saturation whenever we need to."

Another patient added, "I am very satisfied with the staff and the facilities. The rooms are comfortable, and we have access to a pleasant dining area."

In addition to the operating room, the gynaecology department has modernised its intensive care unit, minor procedures room, and ultrasound room.

"This centre at the Institute of Urgent Medicine will serve not only women who have experienced violence, but all women treated in the gynaecology department, including those who come through the emergency department," stated Diana Manea, director of the Institute of Urgent Medicine. "Patients will now have access to newer equipment and a dedicated psychological counselling room."

Natalia Plugaru, deputy representative of UNFPA, remarked, "The Institute of Urgent Medicine joins a growing network of hospitals and medical institutions providing support to survivors of violence. This project has equipped the gynaecology department with an updated operating room, intensive care unit, minor procedures room, and ultrasound room."

The blood transfusion section has also been renovated and equipped with specialised chairs for blood collection, blood storage equipment, rapid plasma thawing devices, and other necessary equipment. The total value of the donation from the United Nations Population Fund is two million lei (100,000 euro).
